About S1000D
Initially created by the Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD), it is now jointly produced by ASD, Aerospace Industries Association of America (AIA), and ATA e-Business Program (administered by ATA/A4A). The specification has evolved over time to include various applications and types of equipment. Its structure is divided into chapters covering creation, management, and publishing aspects.
The concept of this specification was originated in the aerospace field within ASD in early 1980s. The first issue of S1000D was signed and released in 1989, today the latest released issue is Issue 6.
The use of S1000D has multiple benefits that fit into four principal areas; realization of these depends on several factors, implementation strategy, infrastructure
