I have found in the web business, a website is like a girlfriend. Every new site design is like fostering a relationship with a new girl. You spend hours working on it, and when you get it where you want it you make promises you have no intention of keeping. "Yes, I'll update you regularly, no site will come in between us." Then just a few weeks later you catch yourself at two in the morning in a dark room working on a new 'relationship'. Sure you feel guilty and you try to go back to the way things were, but it's never the same...
The old site becomes a nag, "Update this, change that, That thing over there never worked right in the first place". Fixing and maintaining is never as much fun as development, and that new site is always catching your eye from across the room. This I believe, is the reason some developers are caught in a constant update cycle. They just unveil thier third design for the year and are already taking it down to start fresh. It's the inability to commit to anything long term. Unfortunatly when the work is paid, you have to turn your back on the 'projects' and work on the real jobs. Right now, I'm committed on 4 projects, with another 3 in the wings. Until those get caught up, the theming and integration will have to wait. Right now it's completly functional, and I'll pop in every couple weeks to make an appearance on the main page, but the details will have a hold. Thanks to everyone who helped contribute, and to our patient visitors! |
