Pickup Coil Check

Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.

1. Remove the distributor cap

2. Disconnect the pickup coil connector from the ICM.

3. Check the resistance of the coil with an ohmmeter.

Connect an ohmmeter to either pickup coil lead and the housing as shown in the figure, step 1. The reading should be infinite, if not replace the coil.

Connect and ohmmeter to both pickup coil leads as shown in the figure, step 2. Flex the leads by hand and the coil connector to locate and intermittent opens. The ohmmeter should read a constant un changing value from 500 to 1500 ohms. If not replace the coil.
