Title:Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding

Author:

This is right out of the GM Service manual for my truck.

1. Fill the reservoir with new dot 3 brake fluid to the level of the diaphram.
NOTE: never use fluid which has been bled from a system to fill the reservoir, as it may be aerated, have too much moisture content and possibly be contaminated.

2. Remove the secondary (slave) cylinder and tip it so the bleeder screw is up.

3. Hold the clutch pedal down, open the bleeder screw to let the air and fluid escape, and close the bleeder screw. Let the clutch pedal up.

4. Repeat step 3 until all air is out of the system.

check and refill the reservoir as needed while bleeding so that air is not drawn into the system.

5. Install secondary (slave) cylinder and refill the reservoir if needed.

Additionally a few notes to help out.

There is a plate on the side of the bell housing, you remove it to see just how much the clutch cylinder moves.

The manual states it should move a minimum of .75 inches. If not you may have a bad master or slave cylinder.
